Propel Cable Project:
This long debated project led by NY State for the purpose of installing some 90 miles of significantly wide sets of cables along many streets in Long Island, including our local roads, leading to the energy substation located in Glenwood Landing, with the cable installation going across the sound into Queens and other areas of the city, was approved on September 17, 2026, for its initial stage, by the NY State Public Service Commission in complete disregard to the extensive fight spearheaded by many local neighbors, the Towns of Oyster Bay, Hempstead, North Hempstead, the North Shore School, Syosset and Roslyn schools, the Village of Sea Cliff, the City of Glen Cove, among others, including the local Civics.  However, there are a couple of major pending approvals that can block this project, which will be extremely disruptive to our local businesses, local homes - roads blocked for quite some time - emergency vehicles, local school streets affected, and most importantly, if these cables are installed there will be a need to store excess energy on batteries that can overheat, go on fire, and local fire houses are currently not able to extinguish these fires as they would a normal fire. 

We ask everyone to please urgently send the attached letter to the army corps of engineers, whose approval is required to proceed with this project.

North Shore Country Club Sale of Land  - Update: 
The Club is embarking on the sale of some 70+ acres of their land (their property is approximately 156 acres) to a private developer for building of homes.  Expected are some 27 homes in the Sea Cliff area, and an undetermined number homes in the Glen Head area. The Civics are in touch with the Town of Oyster Bay to determine the exact location and number of homes projected in their recently submitted application.  We are advised the Town has just received the application and are in the process of an initial review.  The Civics will follow this proposal and keep everyone informed. .

Verizon Cell Antenna Service in GH Area - Update: 
As all Verizon GH customers are aware, for years the lack of a local cell antenna from Verizon has caused extremely poor service.  For years the Civics have been under discussion with Verizon to seek the installation of an antenna in this area, and finally, Verizon has negotiated with the local American Legion the installation of an antenna.  The project, which has been in the works for sometime now, is in the process of obtaining Town permit approvals, and has now reached its final stages.  The Town Zoning Board met two weeks ago to review the project and it is now pending their final decision. The Civics will continue to monitor the Town's decision and will keep everyone informed.

Glen Cove Avenue - Harbor Way Wall - Update: 
This wall collapsed some 4+ years ago and the County performed some partial repairs pending an overall reconstruction of this wall.  In terms of background, this wall is used by many children walking to both the HS and the MS, as well as adults walking within the Glen Cove area.  The wall is again deteriorating and the Civics have been under discussions with the County to initiate their promised reconstruction.  We are informed the funding is approved, the bidding for the job is completed and they advise us a likely date for shovel in the ground will be March/April 2027.  Again, the Civics will continue the drive to get this project completed.

Water Service Takeover from Liberty - Update
The Water Authority of North Shore, formed through legislation during 2022 is continuing to explore the acquisition of the water district servicing GH, GWL, Sea Cliff and parts of Glen Cove, Roslyn Harbor and Old Brookville, currently run by Liberty Utilities. Discussions continue with Liberty - this is a long drawn out process - and the Water Authority has submitted a letter to the New York State Public Commission to request a rate freeze (Liberty has recently requested a rate increase) because of the acquisition process, and because the authority is pursuing the potential condemnation of the system. Property at 2 Walnut Street - Across from the Glen Cove Avenue Local Businesses - Update
This property, a former children's after school program, was purchased by the Town over 2 years ago, it is currently being cleaned up for the purpose of creating a small "park" type of location.  The property is located directly behind the current small parking lot across from the local businesses on Glen Cove avenue near the four corners.  The Civics have insisted this property should become an extension of the current parking lot, however, the Town, for now, has decided on a small park approach.  The Civics will continue to encourage the Town for an extension of the current parking lot.,
