Propel Project Status Update

Cable Installation Across:
Glen Head-Glenwood Landing-Greenvale-107

Public Service Commission Meeting Highlights - Status as of July 24, 2025:

  • Over 500 individuals attended the four meetings held over two days.

  • Many residents spoke — the vast majority voiced clear, thoughtful opposition to the Propel Project and raised serious concerns about its potential impact.

Status Update as of April 28, 2025:

There is currently a legal review (Article VII) of this proposal where the Civics, along with many other entities and individuals from across LI and our community, are participating and voicing our opposition to this project which entails installing 90 miles of underground cables across LI – 15 of which would be across our communities.  The review being conducted by the Public Service Commission of NYS, is assessing input from communities and Propel – the company assigned to install these cables.  Many local Town Supervisors, including the Nassau County Executive, are publicly opposing this project. Many community residents are concerned about the traffic disruptions this project would cause on our already congested streets.

WE NEED TO ENSURE YOUR INDIVIDUAL VOICES ARE HEARD OPPOSING THIS PROJECT.

The Concern:

The installation of these cables can be as deep as 7 to 10 feet, therefore the excavations of the local streets will be considerably wider, deeper and much more complex in comparison to lower voltage distribution cable installations.  The disruption to local traffic, in already heavily congested areas, and the effect on our local business community is expected to be of significance. The map above shows the proposed layout of the project.

What Steps are the Civics Taking?

The Civics are challenging this project for the reasons stated above, (the logistical impact of traffic disruptions on the impacted roadways, and the associated financial impact from the traffic disruptions). We are doing so through a legal Article VII process which Propel is required to first apply to prior to initiating their proposal.
