Civic Council Position on the Power Projects
The Civic Associations of Glenwood Landing, Glen Head, and Greenvale strongly oppose the Propel and BESS Projects currently proposed for Long Island, as well as the Rapid Act. While we fully support Green Energy Initiatives, we believe they must undergo comprehensive evaluations—including thorough risk assessments and financial impact analyses—with all identified risks and impacts effectively mitigated.

We are committed to actively engaging in and influencing the review and approval processes to ensure that:

-
Established review and approval procedures are strictly followed, avoiding fast-track measures that could compromise thorough risk assessment and mitigation.

-
All potential risks and impacts on our neighborhoods are comprehensively identified, evaluated, and addressed.

-
Lessons learned from recent incidents at live BESS facilities, along with best practices, are incorporated into proposed projects in our area.

-
Projects that fail to adequately mitigate identified risks are deferred, delayed, or canceled.
