We hope you are all enjoying summer.  We are writing today about an important issue facing our community and we have one last chance to provide written comments to the New York State Department of Public Service.  The last day to provide your comments is Friday, July 17th and we are urging every resident, every household member, to separately submit comments ASAP.  Here is a link, and phone number, you can choose either to submit your comments:

We must take advantage of this extension to take the simple steps listed below:

The deadline to file comments with the PSC is this Friday July 17.  Please submit your written comments now.  Every household member should submit separately.  Please include at least a short paragraph to explain your reason for supporting or opposing this project.  Here are a couple of short suggestions you can cut and paste to oppose this project:

I oppose the Propel Project and am very concerned about the detrimental impact to our Glen Head, Glenwood Landing, Greenvale Communities where the four major segments of cables will converge.  My concerns include health and safety with significant high voltage / potential electromagnetic fields produced by the cables. I also have significant concerns about traffic, impact on local businesses, emergency vehicles getting down streets and buses bringing children to school.  Emergency evacuation is also a significant concern with so many of our local roads and main arteries included for long term construction.

The  Joint Proposal in my view does not adequately address the concerns and lack of support from local individuals, civic associations, local school districts, and politicians who have participated in the Joint Proposal process. This clearly demonstrates that local voices, priorities, and community concerns HAVE NOT been meaningfully incorporated into the Joint Proposal, therefore the Joint Proposal should be rejected in its current format.

 

The civics have been deeply involved in opposing the Propel Project that aims to run underground, high voltage power lines throughout Nassau County with all four major segments culminating and running through our Glen Head, Glenwood Landing  Greenvale Communities, to the Glenwood Landing Waterfront, in order to connect to the Bronx and Westchester.  Please study the map included with this email.

 

Community leaders are concerned about the significant impact to our area and detrimental impact on health and safety with significant high voltage / potential electromagnetic fields produced by the cables. Civic leaders are concerned about traffic, impact on local business, emergency vehicles getting down streets and busses bringing children to school.  Emergency evacuation is also a significant concern with so many of our local roads and main arteries included for long term construction.

The significant road construction impacting most of the major roads in our area is planned over a 4 year period.  The four major segments will converge in our community (Glen Head and Glenwood Landing), with cables running from Huntington, Syosset, Uniondale, etc.  These high voltage cables will run under the Glen Head train tracks, which will also affect our Oyster Bay train line and commuters. The roads in our area where cables are proposed and construction is planned include: Glen Head Road, Glen Cove Avenue and Back Road, Railroad Ave. Glenwood Road, and Kissam Lane, all leading into a new Shore Road substation.  Also impacted will be Cedar Swamp Road (Route 107), Northern Blvd (Route 25A) and many other roads as we head south.

  

We cannot bear all the risks and none of the benefits this project “allegedly” promises, to the detriment of our community or the health and safety of current and future generations, not to mention the potential  impact to our home values. Propel has been disingenuous in their dealings with the Civics and the community, and we have no reason to believe they will act in our best interests if the approval they seek is granted.
